How to Turn Off Eco Mode on Honda Odyssey
After more than two decades of success, the Honda Odyssey continues to be the prime minivan of choice for families large and larger. (Boy, how far we've come since the 1995 Odyssey, with its gloriously dated manual rear door, graced our dealership's showroom floor.) Now, to commemorate the van's 25th anniversary, Honda has released its 2020 Odyssey with a handful of new additions to keep those minivan-lovers happy.
What new features come with the 2020 Odyssey?
Making its case for being America's best minivan, the 2020 Honda Odyssey has made a few changes for the year, including the following features:
- 25th Anniversary Accessory Package – Available on all Odyssey trims, this package ($1,500-$2,800) offers special exterior badging and chrome accents, a unique key fob, illuminated door sills, and 19-inch wheels.
- 10-speed Automatic Transmission – The 2020 Odyssey now comes standard with a 10-speed automatic rather than the older 9-speed box.
- Start-Stop Technology – To pair with the standard 10-speed, Idle Stop powertrain technology is standard on all 2020 Odyssey trims.
What does the new Honda Odyssey look like?
The Honda Odyssey was last redesigned in 2018. However, as mentioned above, the 25th-Anniversary Edition 2020 Odyssey ups the flashy factor with its add-on Accessory Package.
A unique Anniversary badge garnishes the front fenders and tailgate. Door sill plates receive some glow in the form of illuminated LED lighting, as does a special key fob. Chrome is speckled all around the exterior; roof rails and crossbars, door trims, and a back bumper protector have all gotten the chrome treatment. Opt for the highest package option and receive 19-inch chrome alloy wheels.
What's the MPG for the 2020 Odyssey?
The official EPA estimated fuel economy for the '20 Odyssey is 19 city/28 highway mpg—a touch higher than the rival Toyota Sienna and far more than the Kia Sedona. In the real world, the 2020 Odyssey achieves a slight bump in fuel economy, according to Car and Driver.
How does Honda ECON work?
ECON Mode in the Honda Odyssey – and every new Honda vehicle, for that matter – helps improve fuel efficiency in a variety of ways.
When activated, ECON adjusts the throttle in direct response to your Odyssey's speed. For instance, as you approach highway speeds, the throttle churns down to save on fuel; when first accelerating, throttle response is virtually unaffected, so you won't feel any sluggishness – something that plagued older vehicles from generations past.
When engaging cruise control, ECON prevents the Odyssey from downshifting, which also improves efficiency. It does so by adjusting its distribution of power from the transmission to the wheels.
As an added bonus, ECON Mode will regulate cabin temperature by switching the air conditioning on and off.
When should I use ECON?
In most situations, you can leave your Honda Odyssey in ECON Mode. However, for your safety, consider switching ECON off on hot Missouri days – this helps with air conditioning – and when merging onto the interstate, particularly when you must get to 65 mph quickly.
When did Honda fix the Odyssey's transmission?
Some people weren't happy with the previous generation's transmission. We're happy to say that the past 7- and 9-speed transmissions are long gone, replaced by the all-new 10-speed automatic.
Which Honda Odyssey has DVD or Blu-Ray?
A rear entertainment system, complete with Blu-Ray™ player, streaming capabilities, HDMI connections, and a 10.2-inch HD screen, are standard on the 2020 Odyssey Touring and Elite vans. Also included on these trims are systems like CabinTalk®, CabinWatch®, and Multi-Zone Audio (Elite only).
How long do Honda Odyssey vans last?
Although your mileage may vary, most experts agree that the Honda Odyssey is one of the most reliable minivans on the market. A good portion of Odyssey models can hit the 200,000-mile mark before finding their way to the salvage yard. Kelley Blue Book also lists last year's Honda Odyssey as their Minivan Best Buy of 2019.
How much can I tow with the Odyssey?
All 2020 Odyssey models are equipped with a 3.5L V6 and can tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds.
Is the new Odyssey safe?
Few minivans are as safe as the Honda Odyssey, whose 2019 IIHS Top Safety Pick award is expected to carry over to the 2020 model. The newest Honda minivan comes available with TPMS with Fire Fill Assist, Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, SmartVent® airbags, a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines, and more.
How much is my old Honda Odyssey worth if I trade it in for a new Odyssey?
